Apex Systems is in immediate need of a Server Administrator to assist with one of our larger government integrators. This position is in Rockville, Maryland, and a Public Trust Clearance is required. Position Server Administrator Location Rockville, MD Duration 8 month contract Primary Responsibilities Provide analysis, administration and support of thin clients, virtual and endpoints. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for VDI Environment Provide physicalvirtual machine management services for the virtual desktop solution (in coordination with other operational entities). Maintain operations on a day-to-day basis for a complex virtual desktop environment of over 1500 virtual desktops. Troubleshoot and proactively monitor systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties. Provide thorough testing and documentation of VDI solution, end to end, including other application testing as required. Maintain server operation and connectivity, backup and restoration, virtual machine support services Coordinate and perform Virtual Desktop and infrastructure maintenance activities Engineer and perform activities associated with building and maintaining a virtual desktop software image Perform management, maintenance, patching, and monitoring of VMWare and other VDI solution software Develop and document new, or update and enhance existing, virtual endpoint image build procedures that meet customer requirements and adhere to defined policies Responsible in ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures Responsible in the design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation of new software and enhancements of existing applications. Prepare for, conduct, and document results from integration, system, and end user testing of endpoint image builds to validate that they perform in accordance with the approved specifications, that they can be deployed successfully, and that they successfully operate with all current supported applications, hardware, and software Provide VDI Engineering Tier 3 support in coordination with the Service Desk (and using the government furnished Service Management System and standard escalation procedures) to resolve network outages to include logging and reporting each user trouble call, regularly providing customers with status updates, and successfully closing out incidents on a priority ranking basis. This includes monitoring the infrastructure ticketing queues and troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure-related service requests, incidents, and problems. Responsible with delivering a root cause analysis document for each Severity 1 incident escalated to Tier 3 resolved in accordance with SLAs. Responsible in performing alternate duties supporting the NGITS engineering team as required. Required Knowledge and Skills Experience with VMWare virtualization solutions Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud andor AWS Cloud Experience with writing and deploying Microsoft PowerShell scripts to support the collection of data from workstations and servers, assist with the deployment of software packages, and perform remediation actions on workstation or server assets Experience with Cloud Security Groups Experience and Knowledge of the OSI network model Must be detail-oriented, security conscious, and proficient in troubleshooting. Strong communication skills to provide for effective documentation and business cases. Strong time management skills. Ability to identify and mitigate potential security related risks Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent and eight (8) years of general experience. Six (6) years of general experience is considered equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. With a Master's degree, six (6) years of general experience is required. With a PhD, four (4) years of general experience is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance Desired Qualifications Experience and expert-level understanding of Virtual Desktop Solutions to include overall design and architecture, as well as policy configuration. Knowledge of Horizon Cloud Azure VMWare a plus. Experience with VMware in a clustered environment. Experience with thin clients and desktop migration projects.
