This position is offered at either Bell s main campus in Fort Worth, Texas or the Shelton, Connecticut office. Relocation to the Dallas/Fort Worth area is available. For those in the CT area, Bell s Shelton office allows candidates to work remotely on the same diverse range of exciting programs without having to relocate. Travel to the main campus in Fort Worth for coordination meetings, testing, and other on-site activities can be expected. For either location, travel to various suppliers may be expected depending on the assignment.
Bell is seeking an Autonomy Software Engineer to support the development of new and novel products and platforms. The requirements associated with the integration of vehicles in urban environments, including Air Taxi and Product transportation/delivery are challenging and exciting. The emerging concept vehicles provide opportunities for engineering, simulation, and test of configurations and technologies that will shape the future of aviation. This position will be a part of a diverse team of engineers capable of executing in a fast-paced environment.
Engineering opportunities are available in the development, integration, and testing of Autonomous and Unmanned systems.
The Autonomy Software Engineer is responsible for (but not limited to) supporting the following:
Design, development and test of autonomous navigation, visual odometry, obstacle avoidance, object identification and comparable control behaviors.
Development and support for DO-178 and other standards relevant to software certification for aircraft.
Participation and involvement in architecture, interface, capability definition, requirements generation, design artifacts, simulation, verification, and validation activities.
Application of control and image processing techniques to aircraft, with preference to unmanned and autonomous aircraft.
Must be willing to mentor young engineers in the areas described above.
Bachelor s degree is required in Computer Science, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or Applied Sciences (Physics)
Master s Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above is preferred.
9+ years of experience in the aerospace industry, particularly rotorcraft, is beneficial.Other industry experience will be considered.
Experience with autonomous control and navigation software is desired. Preference will be given for additional work in flight controls, avionics, sensor integration and systems development.
Familiarity with relevant standards: RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-178, RTCA DO-254, SAE ARP 4754A, SAE ARP 4761, 14 CFR Part 27 and Part 29 for commercial and military qualification and certification of aircraft systems.
