Comcast brings together the best in media and technology. We drive innovation to create the world's best entertainment and online experiences. As a Fortune 50 leader, we set the pace in a variety of innovative and fascinating businesses and create career opportunities across a wide range of locations and disciplines. We are at the forefront of change and move at an amazing pace, thanks to our remarkable people, who bring cutting-edge products and services to life for millions of customers every day. If you share in our passion for teamwork, our vision to revolutionize industries and our goal to lead the future in media and technology, we want you to fast-forward your career at Comcast.
Overview
As an experienced software architect, you play an important part in continuing Comcast's evolution as a major technology company. You and your team are responsible for setting and communicating technical strategy and architectural guidelines while considering our current technical architecture, talent, and financial resources.
This is more than just a technology role: you think about people and the needs of the company, too. You think security and privacy first. Your solutions consider the surrounding industry and technology environment. You help to strike the right balance on some of our most complicated issues:
* efficiency through standardization or freedom to innovate and evolve?
* tried and true technology and practices or embracing the cutting-edge?
* optimize for time-to-market or ensuring long-term technical health?
Most importantly, you are a natural collaborator. In a company as large and complex as Comcast Cable, with hundreds of teams using Agile methodologies, technical decision making is necessarily distributed. As a "free range architect," you establish and maintain credibility with your fellow practicing technologists across Comcast. You evangelize architecture guidelines and collect on-the-ground information to inform the evolution of the architecture team's positions. Your strong interpersonal skills build trust and influence with the wider company community of architects, engineers, and management.
We're looking for a diverse set of passionate people for our team. If you are excited to work, learn, and grow at Comcast-no matter your background or how you identify - we hope you'll apply for this role.
Responsibilities
* Keep up with Comcast's evolving strategic business plans.
* Develop and maintain the software strategy for the company by working along with the Chief Software Architect and other members of the architecture team.
* Participate in an Architecture Guild that helps define, evangelize, and evolve the set of guidelines made available to technical teams.
* Build relationships with technical management across all of Comcast.
* Gain support for enterprise-level software architecture and infrastructure initiatives.
* Establish and maintain credibility with your fellow practicing technologists.
* Maintain in-depth knowledge of our technologies and architectures and stay up to date with technical developments within the industry.
* Let the world know what good things are going on at Comcast by evangelizing Comcast as a technology company. You'll promote our brand in the broader industry through talks at conferences, participating in open source initiatives and standards bodies.
Preferred Qualifications
There is more than one way to be successful in this role. Some of the qualifications you might need are listed here, but it isn't necessary to bring them all. If you see yourself in most of these, we'd love to talk with you.
* At least 10 years of experience in the software industry.
* Leadership success and an entrepreneurial spirit.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills: emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to forge relationships.
* Ability to engage effectively with executive partners.
* Familiarity with the financial concepts needed to budget for engineering operations.
* Comfort with hands-on technology practice (coding, testing, operations).
* Expertise with several of:
+ Cloud native architectures; public, private, and hybrid clouds
+ Agile software methodologies
+ Web service architectures; microservices
+ Mobile and web development
+ Server-side application and service development
+ Technical operations; DevOps; continuous delivery
+ Highly scalable architectures
+ Software and system security
+ Reliable and highly available software systems
+ Networking, intra- and inter-datacenters; ISPs
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or similar field; or equivalent practical experience.
Our Values
As with the agile manifesto, where we make value comparisons preferring one thing over another, we still recognize that there is often value in both.
* We value usable and working solutions now over a perfect solution later.
* We value attitude over aptitude; no genius jerks allowed.
* We value individuals and interactions over process and tools (yes, we borrowed this one).
