The Advantage Program Coordinator (Advantage Coordinator) for the Community Schools and Youth Development (CSYD) department is a high-impact leadership role responsible for management and supervision of the Advantage After School Program at the Island School (PS 188). The Advantage Coordinator works from a strengths-based, solutions-focused perspective to design, implement, and refine programming that meets the educational, social and emotional needs of the children served. The Advantage Coordinator works closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain a high-quality, student centered program that uses data to test promising ideas and generate best practices.
Cultivate a love for and culture of learning among students, staff, and families
Develop and direct all aspects of expanded day, holiday and summer programs, for up to 140 students, including supervision of the day-to-day functions and budget management
Proactively integrates Social Emotional Learning in all program aspects
Responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, supervision and coaching for direct reports.
Ensure that all accountability goals for the Advantage Program align strategically with Educational Alliance and PS 188 outcomes (e.g. the schools Comprehensive Educational Plan) and Educational Alliances strategic plan (e.g. CSYD Logic Model, Key Performance Indicators and Fiscal Drivers)
Responsible for creating, managing, monitoring and monthly program reports.
Actively participate as a member of the CSYD Learning Community
Work closely with the Community School Director, Manager of Operations, Data and Compliance, the Senior Program Director, and other members of the CSYD Administrative Team to fulfill position roles and responsibilities

Experience and Skills:
Experience working with youth ages 6-18 years old in a positive youth development setting.
The ability to create strong relationships with youth and members of the local school community.
An interest in a variety of youth programs including technology, art, sports, and recreation.
Strong positive disciplinary skills with youth
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to use PC computer software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop
Ability to work in a high-paced environment with continual distractions
Strong ability to create and follow systems and procedures
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in youth development, education or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in youth development, education or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
3. Education and/or experience, which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
Main office is located inside of an NYCDOE building
Must be able to chaperone students on field trips
Must be able to navigate between a sedentary role (in front of a computer) and active role (interacting with students during various indoor and outdoor activities)
